Garner Dolphins update - 7-6-23

Hello Garner Dolphins Families!

Our Garner Dolphins are on a roll, winning their 3rd meet in a row last night. The final score was Dolphins 284 / Crocs 211. Coach Julie shared some thoughts on the team’s stellar performance:

Last night's meet was truly a team effort at every level. We had some key swimmers out, and everyone stepped up and swam their best. There were a lot of close races & it was awesome to see the rewards of the hard work the kids have done around their starts, turns, and finishes. Almost every swimmer had at least one personal best time! I am very proud of each and every swimmer and want to give a shout-out to a few in particular:

  • Jaylee impressed everyone when he jumped off the block & swam the whole way on his own!
  • Henry, Jackson, Isabella, & Jordan E. did a great job scoring some key points for the team despite being the only swimmers in their age group & held their own swimming in the older relays!
  • Caleb, Casey, & Ben went 1,2,3 in the boys 13-14 50 butterfly!
  • Chloe, Isabella, Carley, & Piper swam their hearts out in the 13-14 free relay & won by 0.15 seconds! What an awesome finish by Piper!
  • Ansley, Colton, Jaylene, Piper, Jordan E., Taylor, Brooklyn, Mason, Dani, Annabelle, Ruby, Jaylee, Arianna, & Henry set personal best times in EVERY event they swam!!! That is a HUGE accomplishment.

Way to go Dolphins!

Next week’s meet

Next week we’re hosting the Bentwinds Barracudas. They have a strong team of 97 swimmers and are 3-0 this year. Let’s get our swimmers to as many practices as possible, well rested, and fed so we have more dropped times and a strong showing.

The theme for this week's meet is Christmas is July.  Help the swimmers get festive by signing up to bring some decorations:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0a48aba92da6fe3-garner#/

If time and sunlight permits, we’d like to have a coaches/parents relay with each leg swimming a 25 yd freestyle. Please let Coach Julie know if you’re interested.

We need three more timers, a Ribbon/Duck Delivery On Deck volunteer, and one more Clerk of Course. Please go to the event page and sign up if you are able. We can’t run these meets without volunteers.

One thing that worked very well at the last meet was having all of the kids gathered together in one area where our Kid Pushers could easily find and get them to the Clerk of Course. Please encourage your athletes to sit with the team as much as possible. It will make for a smoother, faster meet.

As per home meet tradition, we’re planning on going to Aversboro Restaurant following the meet.

Upcoming events and dates

This Saturday morning we’ll have blocks and flags setup for a full practice, and…we’ll be serving chicken minis and fruit from Chick-Fil-A courtesy of one of our sponsors: Lauren Wagner with The April Stephens Team of eXp Realty.

Next Monday you have a good excuse to dine out and get some yummy food from Alpaca Chicken. Alpaca Chicken will generously donate 20% of sales that mention our fundraiser on Monday July 10th.  Keep an eye out for a flyer in the next few days. Please share with friends and family!

The TSA Championships are Saturday, July 22 at the Triangle Aquatic Center. Please talk to Coach Julie if you’re interested. It’s a great opportunity to experience a big time meet, swim in an Olympic caliber facility, see some fast swims, and have fun with teammates.

Our end of season banquet and awards is Monday, July 24th. We’ll have a potluck and hand out awards in the clubhouse, then have a pool party. Sign up Genius will be shared in the next week or two.

As always, holler with any questions and see you at the pool!
