Volunteer Positions
Volunteers are critical to running a successful summer swim meet. When many hands pitch in, the work load is lighter for everyone. Volunteer sign-ups will be available on the meet signup page. Here's a brief description of the volunteer roles for meets.
Announcer (home meets): Announce upcoming events, scores, records, etc. TSA has a script available for guidance.
Setup/Breakdown (home meets): Setup and breakdown the starter equipment, flags, starting blocks, etc...
Clerk of Course (home and away meets): Clerk - Organizing swimmers behind the starting blocks in the right lanes and heats. Record deviations from the original heat sheet (scratches, substitutions, lane changes, etc.) for reconciliation with timing data.
Kid Pusher (home and away meets): Keeps track of younger swimmers and moves them to the Clerk of Course in time for their events.
Runner (home meets): Picks up place judge records and DQ slips from meet officials during the meet and delivers them the Meet Administrator. If timing sheets are used, collects those and delivers to Meet Administrator.
Meet Administrator (home meets): Responsible entering meet information into Meet Maestro, or on scoring pages such as Place Judge record, Disqualifications and times if used. Scores can be generated from Meet Maestro, or tabulated on traditional scoring pages
Starter (home meets): Starts each event and heat. TSA provides free STARTER TRAINING at 2 clinics prior to the start of the season in late May or early June.
Stroke and Turn Judge (home and away meets): Verifies that main event heat athletes are swimming each stroke in accordance with TSA rules. TSA provides free STROKE & TURN CLINICS prior the first meet in late May and early June. Alternatively, there is an option to pay for online training to be paid for by your club or individual volunteer. Link is on the website. Or a certified Stroke and Turn Judge Official can provide USA Swimming credentials prior to the start of first meet of the season.
Timer (home and away meets): Time swimmers in one lane, using automated timing devices and/or manual stopwatches. Head Timer - The head timer acts as the backup timer. They start 2 stopwatches at the beginning of each heat and if a timer has a timing issue gives them one of the stopwatches.
Order of Finish Judge (OOF) one from each team observes and documents 1-6th place and serves as a back-up in case of malfunction/error with timers or timing system.
TSA Rep (home and away meets): TSA reps officiate the meet. One TSA Rep from each team will ensure TSA rules and guidelines are followed. Any disputes will be solved by the two TSA Reps on deck.
Ribbon Delivery on deck Hand heat-winner and participation ribbons to swimmers as they emerge from the pool for all heats in individual events except main event.
